Chief Financial Officer - Consumer Packaged Goods

With a career that spans over two decades at Constellation Brands, one of the world’s leading producers of alcoholic beverages, Thomas McCorry has consistently been a catalyst for financial innovation and growth. His expertise in economic strategy, operational efficiency, and leadership have transformed Constellation’s business operations, impacting the company and the communities he serves.

Financial Stewardship That Drives Operational Excellence

McCorry began his journey with Constellation Brands in 2004 as a Director of Global Accounting. His deep understanding of accounting and financial systems allowed him to quickly rise through the ranks, taking on leadership roles with increasing responsibility. As Vice President of Global Accounting, McCorry oversaw the company’s financial reporting and accounting functions. He led the global consolidation and monthly close processes for Constellation’s $3.6 billion portfolio, significantly improving efficiency by reducing the close time by eight days and enhancing the accuracy and reliability of financial data.

In this role, McCorry was instrumental in standardizing accounting procedures across Constellation’s international divisions. By spearheading the development of global accounting policies and centralizing intercompany transaction processes, he improved operational efficiency and reduced errors, ultimately leading to smoother financial operations. His leadership complemented his efforts in adopting a new global ERP system, which streamlined Constellation’s financial reporting and compliance with US GAAP.

Transforming Financial Planning in the Wine & Spirits Division

In 2012, McCorry was appointed Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) for the Wine & Spirits division, where he was responsible for managing the financial strategy of a $2.7 billion profit segment. In this role, he led the development of strategic financial plans and worked closely with the sales and marketing teams to align financial goals with business priorities. McCorry’s ability to drive financial performance and strategic growth within the Wine & Spirits business was demonstrated through his introduction of a zero-based budgeting approach, which provided greater visibility into spending and allowed for more precise alignment with key business objectives.

Two years later, McCorry expanded his responsibilities to include the role of Vice President of Commercial Finance for the division, where he was responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Constellation’s wine and spirits portfolio. During his tenure, he implemented transformative initiatives that boosted profitability and revenue growth, including centralizing approximately $150 million in non-price investments to create a unified financial strategy. McCorry’s focus on optimizing financial processes and aligning commercial priorities helped drive significant improvements in the division’s performance.

Driving Growth and Efficiency as CFO of the Beer Division

In 2021, Thomas McCorry was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Beer Division, Constellation’s most prominent business unit, with $8 billion in revenue. In this role, McCorry led the financial strategy for the company’s beer brands, including iconic names such as Corona and Modelo. One of his significant achievements was reducing planned capital investments by $1.5 billion (30%) over three years by realigning commercial demand, supply planning, and engineering resources. This effort optimized capital allocation and improved operational efficiency, reducing costs and driving higher margins.

McCorry’s financial understanding was evident in his efforts to improve cost management and enhance profitability. He implemented a multi-year cost efficiency strategy, addressing cost inflation and driving sustainable margin improvements across a $3 billion operations footprint. His leadership in governance and controls over capital planning helped reduce expenditures while enhancing decision-making and accountability within the division.

Fostering Collaboration and Employee Engagement

Beyond his financial leadership, McCorry has been dedicated to building a solid organizational culture. At Constellation’s Beer Division, he spearheaded the creation of the company’s first expatriate program, which focused on employee engagement and development. This initiative helped reduce turnover, lower recruiting costs, and improve employee satisfaction, leading to an 8-point increase in engagement scores.

McCorry also actively facilitated collaboration across the global finance organization. His work to redefine the international business planning process resulted in better alignment, improved investment prioritization, and a sharper focus on strategic initiatives. By encouraging cross-border teamwork and enhancing communication, McCorry helped strengthen Constellation’s overall financial decision-making framework, setting the company up for continued success in an ever-evolving market.

Giving Back Through Philanthropy and Community Involvement

While excelling in his corporate role, McCorry has remained deeply committed to giving back to his community. He serves on the Board of Directors of Villa of Hope, a Rochester-based nonprofit organization that provides critical services to youth and families struggling with mental health, addiction, and behavioral issues. His philanthropic efforts extend to his role on the Finance Committee of the Catholic Family Center and his participation in the Business Advisory Council at SUNY Geneseo, his alma mater.

McCorry has also made a lasting impact through the McCorry Impact Scholarship, which he established and endowed at SUNY Geneseo to support students from underprivileged backgrounds. His dedication to social causes is further demonstrated by his volunteer work at House of Mercy, where he helps prepare and serve meals to those experiencing homelessness.

Academic Foundation and Personal Life

McCorry’s impressive career is supported by a solid educational foundation. He graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant in 2001. In 2012, McCorry furthered his leadership skills by completing an Executive Development Program at Dartmouth College, which helped refine his strategic and financial expertise.
